Activism: Getting Women into Wilderness
Leslie Ross is a three time National Telemark Free Skiing Champion and an Ambassador for Telemark Skiing. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Babes in the Backcountry, which seeks to inspire connection through outdoor adventures. This is accomplished through educational trips for women to learn the skills needed to safely enjoy mountain biking, skiing and generally playing in the natural world. In addition to learning skills, these outdoor adventures translate into action for students’ daily lives and become the spark for a deeper understanding of our role as humans in balance with the natural world. And while Babes in the Backcountry maintains their women’s specific focus, they are expanding into programs for couples and specific adventures to make wilderness experiences more accessible to the growing Latino population in Colorado.
Through “Babes”, Leslie has also raised money to support The Breast Cancer Fund, Save Our Snow Foundation and the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
In her most recent pursuit as a yoga teacher, Leslie is demonstrating her “walk the talk” philosophy that we at Elemental Herbs share: take care of yourself, and share that joy and gratitude with others.
Leslie lives in Breckinridge, CO, where she can ski tour and mountain bike from her front door.
